As an adaptation of the Wooly Bugger, which was adapted from the Wooly Worm, the Flash-a-Bugger carries many of the oldest stories in fly fishing. The addition of flash added to the sides of the fly and extending alongside the tail, make this an exciting option for fish. Depending on size, the Flash-a-Bugger will imitate baitfish, leeches, crawfish, tadpoles, and large larval stages of damsel and dragon flies. In stillwater, this pattern can be slowly stripped to solicit strikes. In moving water, this fly can either be dead-drifted or more effectively stripped downstream to imitate fleeing prey.
