Selecting the Right Anchor Line
One of the preferred rules of thumb when selecting an anchor line size is to have 1/8″ of anchor line diameter for each 9′ of boat. In other words, 3/8″ anchor line would be suitable for most boats up to 27′. Appropriate sizing may vary depending on boat type, anchoring conditions, and other factors.
Sizing Table and Breaking Strengths:
3/8″ diameter rope: 4000 lbs; for boats up to 27′
1/2″ diameter rope: 5200 lbs; for boats up to 36′
5/8″ diameter rope: 9000 lbs; for boats up to 45′
3/4″ diameter rope: 11200 lbs; for boats up to 54′
