Time And Tide is a diverse album, wealthy in texture and exotic moods – it is music that may be sensual, unpredictable and continuously quirky – yet it all the time remains within an accessible pop format. Call it pop music for those that don’t like pop music. Holger and U-She recorded these 16 tracks between 1993 and 1995, two of which are built on Can sessions from 1973 and feature Can members Michael Karoli on violin and Jaki Liebezeit on drums.
The songs range from the romantically mischievous, like Trum , with its playful rhythm and humorous lyrics, to the ambient Without You , with it is deep breathing mantra-like vocals. Then there is the title track, with its soft, bell-like sequences, violin and orchestral breaks, the tribal rhythms of Secret and the sublimely beautiful Blue Sky , with its catchy bass-line and strummed acoustic guitar. Right through, Holger’s bass is deep and profound, giving the music an air of secrecy and underlying it with hidden meanings and half-whispered secrets. Expect the smoky, deep-voiced sensuality of early Nico and the idiosyncratic pop spirit of Slap Happy.
The Revisited re-release of Time And Tide is digitally remastered and comes housed in deluxe digipak format.
